Frosting for Dinner

I made cupcakes last night! Guess what that means?
Yup frosting for dinner.

I promise it's not the only thing I had. We made chicken salad sandwiches. I heart chicken salad sandwiches don't you? We eat ALOT of sandwiches at our house. Cold cuts, grilled chicken, chicken salad, BLTs, veggie delites, pulled pork, burgers - turkey, cow, and bean. (burgers are technically a sandwich they are on bread). Toasted sandwiches, open faced sandwiches, paninis. On wheat, on rye, on pumpernickel, on sourdough, and my new favorite pretzel buns. Seriously if you haven't tried a pretzel bun go get some today, make yourself a sandwich, and nom-nom that thang. Or you could  make brats, I saw some pretzel hot dog buns at the store this weekend - i can just imagine how amazing a good brat with some grainy mustard would taste on the goodness of a pretzel bun.

All this talk of the amazing-ness of the pretzel bun is making me sad. I packed the rest of the chicken salad and buns for Mr. B's lunch and all I have is a lettuce salad and no carbs.

Let's end with another picture of cake-cakes to take our mind off that tragedy.

Fiesta

As you know this past Sunday was Cinco de Mayo. An excuse to drink margaritas and eat Mexican food. The family got together for our own fiesta. Complete with a pinata. The kids couldn't wait for us to get there to do that. (Sad face)

I could kick myself for not taking more pictures but I did get this one of the table. Just look at that delicious spread. Refried beans, enchiladas, tacos, rice, and some sort of soup/sauce thing that was A-mazing, the sistas new boyfriend is a chef he brought that.

And of course a glamour shot of the cup cakes.

Didn't you know taking pictures of food is more important that taking pictures of you family. Maybe it because it stays put while you try and find good light. And it will never think of you as the person with the camera who always want your photo.

Almond Berry Cake

Last month Mr. B's parents celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Sunday some of there friends threw a surprise party for them. I was asked to bring the cake.

I made a white cake with almond berry filling and almond frosting. I topped it with fresh berries and almond slivers.

I never know how many people are going to be at these things and how much cake they eat. So I made cupcakes. Of course they were matchie-matchie.

I'm Back

Well hello there!
Nice to see you again.

I took a little break this month. Don't worry it's not you it's me. In all reality there was nothing going on in our lives that I thought was worthy of a little chat. No house projects, no craftiness, no baking. We spent most of this month watching movies. There was a week long Harry Potter marathon and weekend of the Lord of the Rings (don't we sound like nerds). We worked our way through many bowls of popcorn and rediscovered our love of the nacho. Tostitos topped with some sort of meat, cheese, and salsa tucked under the broiler for a few minutes and then topped with a dolop of sour cream. Great dinner for in front of the TV and almost no dishes.

I did get allot of quilting done on my sunshine quilt. I'd say it's about 2/3rds done. I can't wait to show you the finished product. The quilting really makes it, by far this is the most intricate quilting I have ever done. Lots of loopies and flowers. Several of my finger tips are calloused from the millions of stitches.

This weekend we finally made it to the hardware store. We picked up some things to get some little projects done.  My theory is if we have the supplies here it is one less thing to get in the way of getting something done. It seems when I want to do something it requires a trip to town and the thought of driving makes me loose all my ambition.

Yesterday Mr. B went snow boarding, no broken bones this time. He did fall on his shoulder and it's rather sore this morning. Perhaps I should put him in a bubble or not let him go anywhere with his brother unsupervised. Any-who while he was gone I went to the craft store and the thrift store. My creativity and ambition has been restored!! I think we will be seeing much of each other in the next few weeks.

Last night I baked. For the first time in over a month!
We are celebrating my Grandma's birthday today and I thought some celebration cupcakes were in order. Nothing to fancy, white cake with butter cream frosting and sprinkles. Sprinkles are practically a necessity around here.

Don't you just love the little flags. I would love to say that I made them myself. I said I was once again inspired, but not that inspired. I picked them up at the craft store, the are Martha Stewart. Gotta love that lady. The colors remind me of spring, nice and bright and cheery. I am so ready for the snow and winter to be over with. I took down the big snow flakes last week. I told Mr. B I am done wishing for snow. Now I need to find something else to hang on the wall behind the couch. But any way I digress.

One more picture of the delicious cup cakes.

Until next time!!

12-12-12

Today in Wisconsin it is Aaron Rogers Day. In case you didn't know he is the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, only the best football team around. (no I'm not biased)

Yes it is 12 - 12 - 12, Aaron's number is 12. Get it? OK. Just making sure. So any who the Governor made it official, Aaron Rogers Day. And in honor of this special occasion I made cupcakes. With green and yellow sprinkles, GB's colors.

I took them to work. They boys always appreciate sweeties. They are nom-nom monsters when it comes to cupcakes.

I'll let you in on a little secrete I wasn't always a football fan. Growing up it wasn't a big deal. But I married into a family of football fanatics. Season ticket holder fanatics.  Between you and me and the fence post, I've seen my MIL cry when the Pack lost a play off game. Yeah it's that big of a deal. So by marring into a football family and working in an all mall environment where sports talk rules the lunch room, I have been converted.

If you can't beet 'em join 'em.
And make them cupcakes.
