Postage Stamp Quilt - The Beginning

Fall is officially upon us. It's time to get out there and cut back the gardens and rake the leaves. Ok, I don't rake, I mulch them with the mower. More accurately Mr. B mulches them with the mower, while I work in the gardens. You know we should really get started on that. But Mr. B has been working late most of this week and the sewing machine has been calling. It's a call I cannot ignore.

Time for a scrap busting project, my bins are nearing the point of overflowing! I've been working on a postage stamp quilt. Each of those little squares finished at 1.5 inches.

My intention is to make a large throw quilt. That would mean making 99ish blocks. I'm starting to think I might need to devise an alternate layout - still using mainly scraps! We'll see....

Had to share this nice shot of Mr Erwin.
He's so handsome.

Fur Babies

I know you can't get enough of the cuteness that is Gus and Mr. Erwin.

My Little Helper

Did you survive your weekend and the time change? I couldn't fall asleep last night. I tossed and turned and listed to the coo-coo clock chime of every half hour. I find that very stressful don't you? Not being able to fall asleep and oh my goodness I have to work tomorrow and I'm going to be sooo tired and it's only going to be Monday and this going to set the tune for the whole week. I blame the time change, granted it might have a little to do with the three hour nap I took yesturday afternoon.

I did manage to find some quite time this weekend to work on the Think Spring Quilt. You know in between naps and learning all about aperture and shutter speed, light and ISO settings. My big sista and I took a class to become photography gods. Be prepared to have you mind blown by my skills. (OK not on this photo, this was with my phone at 9:30 last night, but soon I promise.)

As you can see Mr. Erwin made his way on to the table to supervise my sewing. For a while i thought he was going to try and pounce the machine. He soon lost interest and went to harass the dog and bug Mr. B for a bed time snake, cause as you know he is always hungry. We never feed him and he is waisting away to nothing.

A Lesson in Dinner Time and the Order of Things

When Erwin first arrived at our home it was established rather quickly that he would get fed when Gus did. Trying to leave his dish full at all times so he could snack throughout the day was pointless, unless we wanted to have an obese dog.  And putting his dish up high out of the dogs reach was also. Erwin is a cat of many talents, but vertical hops is not one of them.  So he gets feed twice a day, and he knows when it is time to eat. Dinner time for the fur babies is normally at 5pm. Heaven help you if it gets to 530 and you haven’t fed the cat. He will let you know he is wasting away to nothing.  Like, if you don’t feed him in the next ten minutes he will starve to death. He sings you a song about this as he’s rolling on the floor buy your feet trying to look as cute and needy as possible.  Needless to say these antics normally get his food bowl filled first, just to shut him up.
The other evening I made the mistake of filling up Gus’s bowl first. Well Erwin made a b-line to the bowl of food and started mowing it down. Poor Gus just stood there and watched him. He was too polite to push him out of the way; he just stood there while the cat ate HIS food.  I grabbed Erwin and took him over to his bowl and filled it up so everyone could have their own dinner.
Gus immediately dove nose first in his food bowl and started to scarf it down. He had to eat quick before the cat came back and stole it from him again. He got a few mouthfuls in, and then well…he ate to fast and you know what can happen when you do that. Poor Gus, the cat tried to eat his food then he regurgitated in his own bowl to render the rest of it inedible. The look on his face was priceless.
Lesson learned. Erwin ALWAYS gets fed first, cause he’s a needy cat who is wasting away to nothing.  That and we don’t want Gus giving himself a tummy ache on account of the cat again.

Chillaxin'

This past weekend I finished piecing my latest quilt. I have started the long tedious process of hand quilting. (Pictures to come this weekend.)
Every night this week has been spent relaxing on the couch watching TV and stitching.

Last night Erwin got in on the action.

Nothing like lounging on the couch, your feet up, and a cold brewski in hand after a long day of terrorizing the dog and taking naps.

Magic Register

Erwin sits by the bathroom door every morning waiting for me to hurry up and do my morning thing so I can feed him. Incidentally there is a register right there. He has learned to associated the sound of the furnace with warmth from the magic registers.
This is the routine every morning.

Stretch, warming up my toes.

Ohh feel the warmth, it's so toasty-oasty.

Now for some warm air on my belly.

Mom this is great, you know you should feed me soon, maybe move my bowl right here by the warmth..

Magic Register, how I love you.
